The Harry Potter series has taught me so many lessons that I honestly did not think that there were any more to learn. However, I was recently trying to figure out how to put a new and fresh spin on the conventional ‘The Most Inspiring Travel Quotes’ post, and decided that it could not be done. [What is the point of rewriting a post that has been done a million times? No point at all unless you can make yours the absolute best OR the most unique. Could I write the best post about travel quotes? Probably not. But unique…hmmm. I’m pretty good at that.] Hence the idea to relate Harry Potter quotes to travel was born. Here are the lessons that I learned:
1. Take the First Step Towards your Travel Dream
In Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix Ginny says “The thing about growing up with Fred and George is that you sorta start thinking that anything’s possible if you’ve got enough nerve.” So whatever your travel dream is, channel Fred and George and just do it! Fred and George didn’t sit around waiting to do things, they weren’t afraid to break a few rules and they did things exactly the way that they wanted to.
2. Always Seek Adventure
Dumbledore says “let us step into the night and pursue that flighty temptress, adventure” to Harry in Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince. Those of us with wanderlust can totally relate to Dumbledore’s words. Because adventure is something that we crave and continually pursue, but it is also something that cannot be artificially made. I think that if Harry and Dumbledore weren’t so busy saving the world from Lord Voldemort, then they would be total wanderlusters. They never missed out on the opportunity to go on an adventure.
3. Be a Daredevil like Sirius Black
In Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, Sirius states “what is life without a little risk?” This is pretty self explanatory. Don’t play it safe your whole life because if you do, you will miss out on so many opportunities and experiences. Travel to an unexpected destination, try something you have never tried before, go zip-lining in the jungle or climb to the top of a mountain. Live your life and don’t hold back.
4. Use the ‘Travel Disasters’ to Build Bonds
“There are some things you can’t share without ending up liking each other, and knocking out a twelve foot mountain troll is one of them” marked the beginning of Hermione’s friendship with Harry and Ron in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone. Unexpected problems come up all of the time when traveling, so instead of letting them ruin your trip, make the most of the situation by building friendships with those around you. More often than not, the friends who were with you during the hard times are the ones that stick around. Seriously, look at Ron, Harry and Hermione.
